My Son World Heritage site
The My Son ruins offer a glimpse of life in the ancient Champa civilisation, and serve as a reminder of the violence of Vietnam's more recent history. The My Son ruins date back to the 4th Century. My Son was the administrative capital of the Champa kingdom that once ruled over central and southern Vietnam, and the ruins reflect the Hindu influence on the culture of this complex ancient civilisation.
During the American war, My Son was heavily bombed by the US as it was suspected to be a Viet Cong base. Many of the temples were destroyed, but today thanks to local and international funding, the complex is being restored to its former glory.
